Be the Change
Updated: Oct 2, 2020
2020 has been a heck of a year, and it's not over yet. Natural disasters, global pandemic, massive protests....I haven't seen a year like this in my lifetime, and I hope I don't see one again!
In the meantime, though, the best we can do is to follow the wisdom of Mahatma Ghandi, and be the change we want to see in the world. You want a world that's kinder? Then be kind. You want climate change to be less of an issue? Do what you can to reduce your impact. You want a world where all people are treated the same, regardless of the color of their skin, their gender or sexuality, their ability, etc? First, see the answer to the first question. "Be kind" is the answer to a lot of things. Second, do what you can to move the needle toward equality for all.
Metalsmithsforchange popped on Instagram in the wake of protests against racial inequality and police brutality. They are hosting auctions from makers around the globe in support of the black community. 100% of the proceeds of these auctions are donated to organizations that fight for racial and social justice. So far, they have raised more than $50,000.
This week's auction benefits the Loveland Foundation, the Black Women's Health Imperative, Therapy for Black Girls, and One Individual. I have donated this bracelet set for this auction. Why? Because I have the ability to help. Because I can't claim to be an ally and an advocate unless I step up when and where I can. Because none of us are equal until all of us are equal. So that I can be the change. And you can, too.
